Gristline is a static website with no accounts, no comment system and no advertising. This page sets out the little that is collected and who else is involved in serving you these pages.

Who we are

Gristline is an independent baking journal published from Wellington, Aotearoa New Zealand. For the purposes of the Privacy Act 2020, Gristline is the agency responsible for the personal information described below. You can reach us at [email protected].

What we collect

Only one thing, and only if you send it to us: your email address, when you write in or subscribe to the Saturday Dispatch.

There is no signup form on this site. The Dispatch runs on emails you send us directly, and the list is maintained by hand. That means we hold your address, and whatever you chose to write in the message, and nothing else.

We use it to send the Dispatch and to reply to you. We do not sell it, rent it, or pass it to anyone for their own marketing.

What we do not collect

  • No analytics. There is no Google Analytics, no page-view tracker, no heatmap tool on this site.
  • No cookies set by us. Gristline sets no cookies of its own — no consent banner, because there is nothing to consent to.
  • No accounts, no comments, no advertising network.

Third parties involved in serving this site

Being honest about this matters more than claiming the site is entirely self-contained, because it is not:

  • Google Fonts. Typefaces are loaded from Google's font servers. Your browser's request to them will include your IP address and general request headers. This is governed by Google's own privacy policy, not ours.
  • Pexels. Photographs are served directly from the Pexels image CDN, which likewise sees your IP address when the images load.
  • Our hosting provider. Standard server logs may record IP addresses and requested pages for a short period as part of ordinary operations and abuse prevention. We do not analyse these logs to build any profile of you.

Some of these providers are based overseas, which means the technical information above may be processed outside New Zealand.

How long we keep things

Dispatch subscriptions are kept until you ask to be removed. Correspondence is generally kept for two years, so that we can pick up a thread if you write again about the same schedule, and then deleted.

Your rights

Under the Privacy Act 2020 you may ask for a copy of the personal information we hold about you, and ask us to correct it if it is wrong. Email [email protected] and we will respond within twenty working days, as required.

To leave the Dispatch, reply unsubscribe to any issue, or write to [email protected]. You will be removed the same week and the address deleted rather than suppressed.

If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information, you can complain to us first — and if that gets you nowhere, to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner, which oversees the Privacy Act 2020 in New Zealand.

Changes to this page

If this policy changes in a way that affects what we collect, the date at the top will change and the Dispatch will carry a note. We will not quietly rewrite it.
